Recapping 2025’s Highlights at Peterhead Prison

Recapping 2025’s Highlights at Peterhead Prison

As the new year approaches, we’re taking a moment to reflect on what has been an extraordinary year at Scotland’s Toughest Jail. From a visit by Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal, and receiving a prestigious award to delivering unforgettable visitor experiences, 2025 has truly been a year to remember.

Game-Changing Partnership Secured

At the beginning of the year, Peterhead Prison announced a transformative partnership with Cove Attractions, part of the nationally respected Cove Group, securing its future and unlocking its potential as a cultural and historical landmark in Aberdeenshire and northeast Scotland.

With this exciting new chapter, Guided Tours returned to the jail, offering visitors a unique chance to journey back in time and uncover its rich and often turbulent history.

Reflecting on Momentous Occasions

In April, we were honoured to welcome Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal, to Peterhead Prison. During her visit, The Princess Royal toured the former convict prison, which first opened in 1888 and decommissioned in 2013, exploring the museum’s powerful stories and heritage.

Another highlight came as we received the Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Award for the fourth year in a row! This recognition places us among the top 10% of things to do globally, thanks to brilliant reviews from our visitors.

Unforgettable Experiences from the Inside

Alongside our core offerings, we delivered a full calendar of special experiences and offers throughout the year. From junior detectives during February Half Term to free entry for mums and dads on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, there was something for everyone.

Other highlights included our EGG-CELL-ENT Easter Egg Hunt, Harbour of Horrors and a special local residents’ offer of 60% off the Inmate Pass. Because we believe history should be lived, explores and shared, not locked away behind closed doors.
